The genesis of what we have here today EKEFINN PALM OIL MILL is derived from acting upon one's conviction. To lash upon one's passion to create a positive force. I didn’t know anything about palm trees and palm oil until something very strange happened to me in 2008 in Singapore. I live in Finland and by profession a shipman. I am a ship broker and a ship manager. I sell ships, charter ships broker ships, and manage ships. Specifically oil tankers. I sold an oil tanker to a Nigerian client in 2008 from a Malaysian Oil Company. I was about to sail the ship empty to Nigeria after delivery and preparation in Singapore but the Malaysian company requested that I load the ship with Palm Oil for discharge in West Africa and most importantly Nigeria. I was very shocked because all my life I thought West Africa, especially Nigeria exported Palm Oil. On arrival of the ship to Nigeria, I came to Nigeria to investigate the reason why Nigeria imports Palm Oil. Unfortunately, I found out to my surprise that Nigeria actually imports huge amounts of Palm Oil from Malaysia and Indonesia. I felt very bad because palm trees were introduced to South East Asia from West Africa by the British Government as ornamental plants. Well, the Malaysians and the Indonesians transformed the ornamental plant into crude oil of South East Asia. This is how my adventure with Palm Plantation and Palm Oil started. I decided way back then that I would produce Palm Oil in Nigeria. I started acquiring land in 2014 and our first Palm Trees were planted in 2014. Currently, we have a total of 15 different Plantations around Ohafia covering 67,400 Hectares. We have planted in excess of 1,600 hectares. Some of the plantations are mature and bearing fruits. The Palm Oil Mill construction started in January 2018. The Mill is a 20-metric Tonnes Per Hour Fully Integrated Automatic Palm Fruit Processing Palm Oil Mill. The current capacity is 20 Metric Tonnes Per Hour but with an engineering design to increase the capacity to 40 Metric Tonnes Per Hour within 12 months of commencing operation. For optimal use of this Mill, we have reached agreements with many plantation owners and various communities both in Abia State, Akwa Ibom, and Cross State on a mutual benefit basis to permit EKEFINN LTD to transport their palm fruit bunches for processing in EKEFINN LTD Mill. Finally, the overriding objective of this adventure is to create a productive environment enabling permanent employment. To provide job opportunities to people where it wasn’t available before. To provide and produce something tangible that, the larger Nigerian Economy demand on a daily basis. As part of our community involvement, we provide free farmland to all men and women who need it. In the palm plantations, the farmers are allowed to cultivate cassava, maize, melon, yam, tomato, and okra in between the rows of palm trees in exchange for weeding. When we fertilize our palm trees we also fertilize their crops. As part of Finneke and EkeFinn's rural development program, we have a 12,000-capacity chicken poultry farm located 100 meters from this mill. I have always and continue to believe that, this place Ohafia, this place Abia State is my place of final refuge. For that purpose, I must bring back my best to this place. And for that, I dedicate this place EKEFINN PALM OIL MILL to all those who want it and need it. It’s not mine alone but it belongs to everybody. I must not fail to thank all my workers. Most importantly Ume Kalu Okpo, even at your age, you are a strongman. Tailor, without you how could we have brought down all those forests? Obasi Uduma, you are a good man.
